UNEP FI’s work on social issues and human rights is supported and guided by the Social Issues Advisory Group (SIAG).

The SIAG members are representatives from the banking, investment and insurance industries as well as UN Environment, reflecting the nature and strength of UNEP FI’s dual partnership.

The SIAG advises UNEP FI in shaping and implementing its finance and human rights strategy and work plan. It is where industry and UN expertise meet through knowledge-sharing on standards, priorities, challenges and opportunities related to embedding human rights and social issues in finance. Topics addressed by the SIAG as a part of UNEP FI strategy on human rights include clarifying what the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights mean for financial actors in practice (through guidance tools and platforms for practice-sharing) as well as how the human rights agenda interacts with other global processes, such as the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals, which mobilize the financial sector towards sustainable development.
